Replacing a Cooker or Oven Door Seal

If you’ve noticed that your cooker isn’t heating up as it should, or if you can feel heat escaping from around the oven door, it could be time to replace the door seal. Over time, these seals can become worn, damaged, or dislodged, which can lead to heat loss and energy inefficiency.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you remove and replace the seal on your cooker door:

Before we begin…

Instructions:

  1. Turn off your cooker and unplug it from the wall. This is important for your safety as well as for the safe removal and replacement of the door seal.
  2. Open the cooker door and locate the old seal. Depending on the make and model of your cooker, the seal may be held in place with clips, screws, or adhesive.
  3. If the seal is held in place with clips or screws, use a screwdriver or pliers to remove them. Be sure to keep the screws or clips in a safe place where you won’t lose them.
  4. If the seal is held in place with adhesive, carefully peel it away from the door, being sure not to damage the door or the seal.
  5. Once you’ve removed the old seal, clean the area around the door thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any residual adhesive or debris.
  6. Take the new seal and place it around the edge of the door, making sure that it’s centered and straight.
  7. If the new seal is held in place with clips or screws, use the same ones you removed earlier to secure it in place. If it’s held in place with adhesive, carefully press it into place and allow it to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  8. Once the new seal is securely in place, close the cooker door and check for any gaps or areas where heat may still be escaping. If you notice any issues, you may need to adjust the position of the seal or apply additional adhesive.
  9. Finally, plug your cooker back in and turn it on to make sure everything is working properly. You should notice a significant improvement in the efficiency and performance of your cooker with the new seal in place.

Replacing the door seal on your cooker can be a simple and cost-effective way to improve its performance and reduce energy consumption. With these simple steps, you can remove and replace the seal yourself and enjoy a more efficient and reliable cooker.
